Fredrik Eklund has built a career on knowing what people want in a home. Raised in Stockholm, he co-founded The Eklund|Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman, now about 100 agents across New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. Many people know him from Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York, where he starred for all nine seasons, and from his New York Times bestseller, The Sell.
He’s just as devoted to seeing the world for himself.“I am obsessed with traveling,” he says. “I feel a stress almost, that I don’t get to see everything in this lifetime, even if I try, which I really do.”

It checked every box

Paris has always been at the top of Fredrik’s list. For two decades he visited about five times a year and stayed in hotels, because what he could find to buy in his price range was small, rundown, or in the wrong location. Then, while it was still being renovated, he walked into an apartment in Saint-Germain, the neighborhood he calls his ultimate.“I see about 5,000 apartments a year, maybe, all over the world. So I’m kind of good at knowing what I want,” he says. “And it was a bit scary, because this checked every box.”It’s a corner three-bedroom with very high ceilings, beautiful windows, and what he calls the best possible location.“For me, it was my dream apartment,” he says. “I happened to walk into it. And I also knew that I had to be part of it.”Watch the video to hear more from Fredrik about his home in Paris, and why Pacaso is the future of flexible travel and luxury home ownership.

His ultimate neighborhood

Saint-Germain gives Fredrik everything he goes to Paris for: art museums three minutes from the door, vintage shops, the river, and Ralph’s, the courtyard restaurant at Ralph Lauren’s Paris mansion, where the family has lingered for hours while the kids work through a giant ice cream sundae. He loves it even in the rain, when he can put on a nice outfit and just walk and look at the buildings.“You can never, ever go wrong in Paris,” he says.

More than four walls and a roof

As a broker, Fredrik has watched buyers move away from the idea of one home and maybe a country house, especially since the pandemic.“It became more about a lifestyle than just four walls and a roof,” he says.He also knows the old model firsthand.“For me, having a few homes, it’s like a low humming kind of stress,” he says. “When I’m here in New York, I’m thinking of the apartment in Miami. Groceries. What do I leave in the fridge? … Why is it just standing there? And I’m paying for it fully.”Sharing a home with other owners takes that away. In his words, it gives you peace of mind.

Paris, whenever he wants it

Fredrik owns an eighth of the home, and about 40 days a year is plenty for him.“Do I want to live there full time? No,” he says. “This is why this setup is so perfect. I have to get my Paris fix. And then I just go there, and I feel so fulfilled on every level.”

Almost too easy

Before he bought, Fredrik studied the model and got a demo of the app.“Everything seemed almost too easy,” he says. His first stay proved it. Pacaso’s team in Paris texted ahead to ask about groceries and flowers, and the cleaning service came in after the family left.“It was kind of like a hotel, but without a big lobby full of people and that anonymous kind of feeling,” he says, “because it really feels like our home in Paris.”

“It’s enlarging my world”

For someone who worries he won’t see everything in this lifetime, co-owning has given him more of the world, not less.“Owning with Pacaso, and this flexibility that it’s given me, is enlarging my world,” he says. “I feel happier, without the stress of owning.”Pacaso makes it possible to co-own a fully managed second home in the places you love.
