Views of Napa valley

Sonoma at a glance

A wine lover’s retreat, Sonoma, California is considered the more casual cousin to neighboring Napa Valley. Located less than 60 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area, Sonoma boasts 70,000 wine-producing acres and 13 sub-American Viticultural Areas (AVAs). More than 30 cities and towns are part of Sonoma County, with the most popular tourist destinations being the towns of Sonoma and Healdsburg, as well as the Russian River Valley area.

Of course, most visitors come to the Sonoma area for wine tasting. The region has been producing wine since the 1850s, and today there are an incredible 425 wineries and tasting rooms, many of which offer more affordable tastings, dining, and bottles than neighboring Napa. Sonoma is known for its chardonnay, pinot noir, zinfandel, and sparkling wines.

There’s also plenty to do other than wine tasting. Sonoma is known for its delicious farm-to-table cuisine, farmers markets, and artisan cheeses. When you’re ready to work off some of your indulgences, Sonoma boasts an incredible array of outdoor activities, thanks to redwood forests, proximity to the Pacific Ocean coastline, and a network of bike paths.
