Charleston at a glance

There are so many reasons visitors and locals alike love Charleston. This Lowcountry town is bursting with South Carolina charm and history, beautiful scenery and plenty to do.

History buffs will love the cobblestone streets, historic buildings and antebellum landmarks. Some of the most popular stops on a history-focused itinerary are Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, the Old Slave Mart Museum and the Fort Sumter National Monument, where the American Civil War started in 1861.

Charleston is also known for its dynamic food scene, which features fresh seafood, southern favorites, incredible fine dining experiences and inventive cocktails. Outdoor seating and rooftop bars make the most of Charleston’s subtropical climate.

The nice weather also makes Charleston a great golf destination, with 17 championship courses nearby. The most well known is undoubtedly Kiawah Island Golf Resort, which has hosted tournaments like the Ryder Cup and the PGA Championship. The island resort has five courses less than 25 miles from downtown Charleston.
