Our job isn’t done at closing — in fact, for our team of home managers, that’s when the work begins. Home managers provide ongoing, on-the-ground support for Pacaso owners. They serve as an owner’s point of contact, interface with local property managers, ensure that Pacaso homes are properly maintained and respond to any issues that arise during an owner’s stay. Pam Janusz leads the home manager team, setting the standards for home manager communication and service across all Pacaso homes.
A day in the lifeI wake up early, around 5:30, and start my day with a morning walk around my neighborhood in Truckee, a small mountain town just north of Lake Tahoe. I use this time to chat with my mom, who lives a few time zones ahead. After my walk, I respond to emails, then get my kids, ages 7 and 9, ready for school. Once the house is quiet, I dive into work for the day, which involves checking in with my home managers and partnering with home operations and many other teams throughout the company in support of Pacaso owners. The evening is all about family time: I make dinner, help my kids with homework, read or do other family activities, then usher the kids to bed. I take one last pass through my email and wrap up any work loose ends before heading to bed myself.Working for a distributed company is really beneficial as a parent — I have the flexibility to plan my schedule around school drop-off and pick-up times, and my kids can come home after school instead of going to an after-care program. Beyond that, I love being able to live where I want with no commute, and as a bonus, I can wear comfy athleisure pants almost every day.
Communication enables successMy favorite Pacaso core value is “communicate constantly,” because it encompasses goal-setting, tracking to those goals, and being transparent and open. It also enables many of our other core values — you can’t “row together” if you don’t know which direction you need to go, for example. Within my team, constant communication is core to our function. Home managers are interacting with owners every day, and it’s imperative that everyone on my team maintains an open channel of communication. An important part of our service to owners is being responsive, and we can only do that if everyone is communicating. It’s been really gratifying to build out Pacaso’s team of home managers, and I look forward to seeing the team grow as we expand into new markets. One of the best parts of my job is hearing a team member’s excitement when they receive positive feedback from owners. We really get to feel the impact of Pacaso’s mission first hand.
What else don’t we know?When I’m not thinking about Pacaso owners, I love spending time with friends and family, and I’m up for nearly any outdoor activity, including hiking, kayaking, swimming and cycling. I’m equally happy in the mountains or at the beach, and I love to explore new places. I’ve traveled all over, and a few of my favorite places are the South Island of New Zealand, the Na Pali Coast of Kauai and the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. If I had to pick a dream location for my Pacaso, it would be Hanalei Beach, Kauai. My husband would choose Hollister Ranch near Santa Barbara, so I think we’ll need two!
